I've kited Stevenson longer, and possibly more often than anyone on the planet, I've seen some gnarly injuries, broke both my heels on a bad launch, watched from the water as a guy slammed into the rocks so hard I was sure he was dead {he wasn't] and recently nearly broke my arm because someone had rigged their lines across the launch/land area that tripped me when I was trying to help a guy after a sketchy launch.

Just like fight club, there's one rule at Stevie. DON'T RIG OR LEAVE GEAR IN THE LAUNCH/LAND AREA!

This rule began in the early days after a girl hurrying to catch a kite tripped on gear and broke her leg , compound fracture tib/fib. If you don
t know the area I refer to, ask a local or read the sign. The locals, by the way, are some of the nicest people I've known.

The site has getting more and more popular due winging and we can expect that to grow.

What about marking the lawn for area that should be clear at all time for launching and landing?

Jim posted clearly marked photos for safe launch and land at Stevenson when the east winds bring lots more people.

These guidelines work for either wind direction.

In a nutshell, step up ready to go, launch and clear out.

Landing, land it and get out of the way asap.

If there are folks already engaged in launching or landing, take another lap.

Move gear away from the hot zone if you are taking a break or finished.

Have fun, help out with launches and landings and lines.

If you aren’t sure, ask somebody for help. If somebody offers advice, listen. We’ve seen plenty of bad launches, landings and the injuries.
